It may be winter but don’t count the ticks out altogether in northern climates. Yes they will be pretty much dormant as they hunker down under their favorite leaf litter or under a nice blanket of snow. But when they feel some nice unseasonal warm weather in the 40’s or above they could think it is spring and come up out of their winter slumber to check out a new opportunity to look for a host. In other words the warm weather of a February thaw can wake them up enough to look around for some animal or human to get a nice blood meal. So during these days keep your eye out and do tick checks on yourself and your pets if you are out in some brushy areas. They say 32-40 degrees can get those darn ticks thinking about dinner.
